Religious School Philosophy

Beginning in preschool and culminating with the Bar/Bat Mitzvah class, the goal of our Religious School is to impart to our children a knowledge of Hebrew, Bible, Israel, Jewish History, Folklore, Prayers, Jewish Values, Laws and Customs.

It is said that: "True education is more like 'lighting a fire' than simply 'filling a pail". We believe that those words are even truer with regard to Jewish education: The ultimate goal of our Hebrew School is not only to "fill" our students' minds with Jewish knowledge, but to show them how Judaism can be a source of spiritual joy, strength and guidance in their lives. Indeed, we aspire to teach Torah to our children in such a way that they will choose to lovingly transmit it to their own children one day! We accomplish this through many experiential activities, such as celebration, song, dance, story-telling, arts & crafts, drama and hands-on workshops.

Our hours will be 4-5:30pm at B'nai Jacob on Wednesdays for the whole year, grades 3-7. On Sundays 9:00am-noon, we will meet from September to mid-January at Congregation Or Shalom and from mid-January to our last day in May at Congregation B'nai Jacob. Our first day of school will be September 12 and our last day of school will be May 15. Over the summer you will receive a school calendar for the year and more details
